Bachelor of Technology in Instrumentation Engineering Technology

Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology’s Bachelor of Technology in Instrumentation Engineering Technology (IET) is a hands-on program that helps students harness knowledge and skills in the areas of safety applications, industrial electrical systems, automation, PLC programming, and basic design drafting. Through rigorous coursework and experiential learning, students can gain a sound knowledge base and the skills needed to develop their careers in fields related to instrumentation technologies, process control, and industrial processes automation.

Program Outcomes

With the robust hands-on training and engineering knowledge received, graduates of the Bachelor of Technology in Instrumentation Engineering Technology program can expect to learn how to:

  • Apply the concepts of chemistry, physics, and electricity/electronics to analyze and diagnose issues in measurement and control systems;
  • Design solutions for faulty instruments and solve technical problems using appropriate engineering procedures and equipment;
  • Design, install, and configure new instrument systems following industry construction standards and utilizing analog and/or digital control devices;
  • Utilize effective management skills for performing investigations and evaluations to ensure the performance of automatic control systems;

Instrumentation Engineering Technology Program Curriculum

The BT in Instrumentation Engineering Technology program focuses on the application of electronics and computer technology to instrumentation, industrial automation, and process control systems. Students are required to complete a total of 128 credit hours of study, including 29 credit hours of general education to build a solid knowledge foundation for their technical study. Then, they continue to advance their knowledge and skills in engineering and instrumentation systems with 74 credit hours of technical courses and 23 credit hours of additional requirements. 

Full-time students may finish their bachelor’s degrees in instrumentation engineering technology in two to three years. However, the length of the program can be shorter depending on your eligible transfer credits. Admission Requirements

Students who intend to apply for the Bachelor of Technology in Instrumentation Engineering Technology program must hold an Associate in Applied Science degree or higher and submit the following documents:

  • Application for admission;
  • Official high school transcript or GED scores
  • ACT or SAT scores
  • ACCUplacer (Next Generation) Assessment (If needed)
  • Official college transcripts (If applicable)

Graduates of OSUIT’s AAS in Engineering Technologies have the option of articulating directly into the BT program and a specific sequence of courses is required to ensure a seamless transition from the AAS to BT degree. Applicants with other AAS degrees may be required to take bridge courses prior to entering the BT program.
