Mission Statement for OSU Institute of Technology

OSU Institute of Technology’s mission is to serve as the lead institution of higher education in Oklahoma and the region providing comprehensive, high-quality, advancing technology programs and services to prepare and sustain a diverse student body as competitive members of a world-class workforce and contributing members of society.


Program Educational Objectives for the Information Technologies Program

Per the Institute for the Development of Excellence in Assessment Leadership (IDEAL) under the guidance of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) the goal of program educational objectives is to provide a set of broad statements that describe what graduates are expected to attain within three to five years after graduation from the degree program.

The Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology, School of Creative & Information Technologies, Information Technologies Program will enable its graduates to:

  • Develop and maintain life-long learning technical, problem-solving, and soft skills;
  • Gain an applied foundation in core information technologies;
  • Apply professional, ethical, legal, social, and cultural movements to this discipline;
  • Identify, develop, and implement information technology-based solutions

Student Outcomes for the Information Technologies Program

Per the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), student outcomes describe what students are expected to know and be able to do by the time of graduation. These relate to the knowledge, skills, and behaviors that students acquire as they progress through the program.

This program will enable students to attain, by the time of graduation:

  • Outcome A: An ability to apply knowledge of computing and mathematics appropriate to the program's student outcomes and to the discipline.
  • Outcome B: An ability to analyze a problem, and identify and define the computing requirements appropriate to its solution.
  • Outcome C: An ability to design, implement, and evaluate a computer-based system, process, component, or program to meet desired needs.
  • Outcome D: An ability to function effectively on teams to accomplish a common goal.
  • Outcome E: An understanding of professional, ethical, legal, security and social issues and responsibilities.
  • Outcome F: An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
  • Outcome G: An ability to analyze the local and global impact of computing on individuals, organizations, and society.
  • Outcome H: Recognition of the need for and an ability to engage in continuing professional development.
  • Outcome I: An ability to use current techniques, skills, and tools necessary for computing practice.
  • Outcome J: An ability to use and apply current technical concepts and practices in the core information technologies of human computer interaction, information management, programming, networking, and web systems and technologies.
  • Outcome K: An ability to identify and analyze user needs and take them into account in the selection, creation, evaluation, and administration of computer-based systems.
  • Outcome L: An ability to effectively integrate IT-based solutions into the user environment.
  • Outcome M: An understanding of best practices and standards and their application.
  • Outcome N: An ability to assist in the creation of an effective project plan.
