OSUIT HVAC Program Turns Up the Heat with AAON's 9-Ton Pump Donation

OSU Institute of Technology’s Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology program recently received a significant donation from AAON, Inc., a leading HVAC equipment manufacturer.

The 9-ton commercial air source heat pump rooftop trainer unit will give students valuable hands-on experience with commercial HVAC systems, helping them develop vital skills on industry-standard equipment.

This donation aligns with OSUIT’s mission to provide workforce-driven technical education through its polytechnic programs. As Oklahoma’s leader in applied learning, OSUIT equips students with practical experience, preparing them for high-demand roles upon graduation.

AAON’s support of OSUIT spans over 30 years, highlighting the company’s dedication to strengthening Oklahoma’s workforce by training future technicians on cutting-edge equipment.

OSUIT graduates Joseph Denton (Class of ‘14) and Wesley Linker (Class of ‘15), who have worked with AAON since graduation, were among the representatives delivering the equipment.

“As a graduate of OSUIT, it’s exciting to give back to the school that jumpstarted my career,” said Denton. “I’ve been with AAON since my time at OSUIT, and it’s been the perfect place to grow as a technician.”

This contribution underscores OSUIT’s polytechnic approach, which focuses on hands-on learning with real-world tools and technology. By providing equipment like the heat pump trainer, OSUIT bridges the gap between education and industry, ensuring students are prepared to meet the demands of the workforce.

“Support from corporate partners like AAON is essential to maintaining the high level of instruction and industry-aligned training that sets OSUIT apart,” said Boyd King, ACR program instructor. “These partnerships are key to developing the next generation of skilled technicians, ready to fill critical roles in the workforce.”

For over a century, OSUIT has been committed to offering students education and experience in STEM-related fields, including manufacturing, energy, and aerospace. With this donation, students in the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration program will continue to benefit from the practical, high-quality education that defines OSUIT’s polytechnic approach to workforce development.
