Career Encounters to bring more than 1,000 visitors on Oct. 9

Prospective students meet with faculty and learn about OSUIT's programs.

OSU Institute of Technology will welcome close to 1,300 people to campus for Career Encounters, the university’s largest annual recruitment event.

Career Encounters is Tuesday, Oct. 9, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with several check-in stations throughout the campus beginning at 8:30 a.m.

High school seniors, CareerTech students and adult learners are encouraged to attend Career Encounters to get an up-close, firsthand look at the wide range of programs OSUIT has to offer.

Roughly 55 demonstrations, presentations, tours and hands-on activities are scheduled throughout the event for virtually every program across campus including robotics, food sensory experiments and 3D software demonstrations, just to name a few.

“Last year Career Encounters took on a more open-house style format, and it was great,” said Nate Todd, director of Prospective Student Services. “This allows visiting students to see more programs and get the best experience so they can make a more informed decision when thinking about their future careers.”

Students will be able to enjoy lunch at one of three food trucks available: Tasty Beats, TNK BBQ and Taqueria El Jarocho, an authentic taco food truck. The Cowboy Café, located in the Student, will also be open with a menu of daily offerings.

Career Encounters gives participants an opportunity to meet program faculty and staff, interact and talk with current students and possibly meet prospective employers.

It’s also a chance for prospective students to see what classes are like in the programs offered at OSUIT.

“They get to see and do everything. The activities are designed to help answer their questions and provide a level of expectation of what OSUIT can offer,” Todd said. “Some students have a preconceived notion about technical education that just isn’t true. Career Encounters shows them firsthand the high-demand, high-paying options available to them in these areas.”

There will be information booths throughout campus to assist anyone with directions, as well staff from the admissions and financial aid offices on hand to answer any questions.
