Rescue Pets Get a ‘Paw-some’ Makeover with OSUIT’s Creative Touch

OSU Institute of Technology’s Creative Technologies Department and the VisCom Club have embarked on an adorable and impactful mission: helping rescue pets at the Okmulgee County Humane Society find their forever homes by giving them something no other pet has—a professional resume and cover letter!

The project began as a creative way for students to sharpen their Photoshop skills and practice writing standout resumes and cover letters. But these aren't your typical job applicants—these are pets hoping to charm their way into forever homes! Each resume highlights the unique traits of the dogs or cats, showcasing why they’d be the perfect addition to any family.

Christian Bradley, assistant dean, says the students are learning how to present the animals in the best possible light—both literally and figuratively.

“We thought a well-dressed dog or cat, complete with a professional resume, would help them project a favorable image to potential adopters,” Bradley said.

The first batch of these “paw-some” resumes is already underway, with more to come. There’s even talk of turning this initiative into a full-fledged class project, giving students more opportunities to blend creativity with real-world experience.

This initiative reflects OSUIT’s commitment to combining education with community service, as students develop career-ready skills while making a difference in the lives of animals and local families. By creating resumes that highlight each pet’s unique traits, students are showcasing both their creativity and their ability to blend real-world applications into their education.
