OSUIT Flag Football Team Takes the Field at First Competitive Tournament

Intramural flag football at OSUIT is stepping onto a new endzone this November as the team heads to its first-ever competitive tournament. The tournament, hosted at the University of Nebraska November 8-10.

“This is a brand-new opportunity for us, and it’s sparked a lot of excitement within the CSPN club,” said Gabe Sandoval, OSUIT’s sports and wellness coordinator. “We’ve been supporting competitive basketball teams for a few years, but expanding into flag football is something the students have really rallied behind.”

The Competitive Sports Players Network (CSPN) was originally founded to give students a way to explore competitive sports, beginning with basketball. After multiple successful seasons under OSUIT’s National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) membership, CSPN has expanded into other sports. Flag football is the latest addition, and the new team is eager to make an impact.

“Being part of CSPN and preparing for this tournament has been an incredible experience. It’s not just about the competition, but about pushing ourselves and growing as a team. We’ve all learned a lot through this journey, and I’m proud to represent OSUIT,” said Liam Edwards.

The selection process for CSPN’s flag football team began with tryouts open to all club members. With guidance from club advisors Gabe Sandoval and Hope Hubbard, a selection committee evaluated players on their performance and teamwork potential. The final roster includes several standout players from OSUIT’s recent intramural championship game, adding to the anticipation around their competitive debut.

The Nebraska tournament will feature teams from across the region, with OSUIT’s games scheduled for November 9 and 10. CSPN’s team is approaching the competition with determination, eager to make a name for OSUIT in the competitive arena.

For those wanting to follow the action, OSUIT Student Life will stream the games and share updates throughout the tournament on their Facebook page.
