Opportunities for Prior Learning Assessment (PLA)

  • Students may have the opportunity to earn credit toward the AAS in Applied Technology based on prior learning through work, military service, or industry-recognized credentials. Credit is awarded after OSUIT reviews a portfolio, credentials, or, in some cases, a skills- or written-based challenge exam. Credits earned through PLA are recorded on the transcript as “CBE-P” and do not affect the GPA.
  • Students who have completed approved CareerTech coursework in Oklahoma may transfer technical credit toward the AAS in Applied Technology through the statewide Technical Course Articulation Matrix. Approved CareerTech coursework transfers as OSUIT course credit and is recorded on the transcript with a grade of “P.”
  • Students may earn up to 45 credit hours (75% of degree requirements) through a combination of PLA and transfer credit. Credit awarded for prior work, military, or CareerTech experiences in the AAS in Applied Technology cannot be duplicated or reused to satisfy upper-division coursework in the Bachelor of Technology in Applied Industry Leadership program. Each PLA submission must demonstrate new, distinct evidence of leadership and industry practice that has not already been applied toward previously earned academic credit.
