Is the job in a different field? If so, you will not qualify for PLA. The job has to be related to the degree to earn credit.
The Employment Orientation course covers finding employment as well as internships. The student is solely responsible for arranging their internship. SCIT will pass on information regarding intern and employment opportunities to qualifying students. Please let us know if you need help finding or situating an internship.
It is company dependent. There is not an age requirement to be in the program. Some companies, however, will have policies that require the employee/intern to be a certain age (typically 18).
Yes. The student must be pursuing one of OSUIT's Information Technologies Bachelor of Technology degrees.
ITD 4806 or ITD 4809 is required to graduate. Your agreement with your intern site will determine which course you enroll in. ITD 4809 requires 405 clock hours (on the job hours). ITD 4806 requires 270 clock hours plus a 3 credit hour upper level IT elective.
That happens sometimes, but not often. Missing skills due to interning prior to completion of all ITD classes can affect the quality of your internship. Therefore we advise against interning before your last semester. However, there are times that an early internship is warranted. For instance, some companies only take interns during the summer. Exceptions to intern out of order should be requested and approved by the intern coordinator and the Dean of SCIT prior to enrolling.
Yes. Internships are credit classes and require reports, interviews, and other class activities while working in the field to meet the clock hour requirement.
Yes. The industry changes rapidly and more and more internships are becoming remote.
You are more than welcome to start your internship before the semester begins, but only hours worked while the class is in session will count toward fulfilling internship clock hour requirements.
There is an Advanced IT internship for additional credit hours. Please seek advisement from the internship coordinator.

Internship is a class you enroll in and complete on line (course work) and on site (clock hours) for your internship provider (employer). You will have coursework including reports, interviews, and assignments to turn in while you complete your clock hours at the company.
Prior Learning Assessment, if approved, can take the place of the required internship for ITD 4806 only (ITD 4809 cannot be credited through PLA). There is a per credit hour fee of $5 for PLA credit. Tuition and fees are not charged for PLA credit.
