Electric & Instrument Technician

Summary: Under the general supervision of the Electric & Instrument Supervisor, the Electric & Instrument Technician maintains and repairs all electrical and instrumentation control systems within the power plant.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Completes tasks assigned by the Electric & Instrument Supervisor in a timely, accurate, and professional manner. Maintains, repairs, installs, and troubleshoots electrical equipment, including conduit, wiring, electric motors, plant lighting, and motor-operated valves. Maintains, repairs, installs, and troubleshoots instrumentation and control equipment, including transducers, distributed control systems (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLC), power supplies, transmitters, pneumatic valve actuators, and positioners. Attends safety and technical training as required. Reads and interprets wiring diagrams, schematics, specifications, and drawings. Maintains and operates EPA and ODEQ required equipment, including Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS) and weir outflows. Provides support maintenance for CEMS computers, software, analyzers, and associated equipment; generates reports concerning plant compliance. Maintains and troubleshoots DCS networks, Ethernet switches, Modbus/TCP, Ring-buss networks, media converters, and fiber-optic cabling. Performs preventive maintenance and assists in developing procedures. Learns and applies computer systems, electrical codes, and testing procedures as applied to an operating power plant.

Qualifications: Requires graduation from an academically recognized electronic, electrical, instrumentation, technical, or power production school with a minimum one-year program and two years of directly related work experience. Related experience may be substituted for education at the rate of two years of experience for one year of education. Must be able to read and interpret safety rules, procedures, and manuals, write routine reports, and communicate effectively with employees. Requires basic math skills including fractions, decimals, percentages, and equations. Must be able to apply common sense understanding and solve standardized problems. Computer skills include Microsoft Office, configuring control systems, and using maintenance/emission systems. Must have a current driver’s license. May require overtime and travel on short notice.

 

Physical Demands: Must regularly lift, pull, push, and carry 50 pounds or more; climb ladders and stairs; work on elevated platforms or scaffolding; kneel, crawl, stoop, bend, or twist for extended periods; reach above shoulders; wear personal safety equipment, including mask and breathing apparatus; perform manual and detailed work with both hands; stand, walk, talk, and hear. Requires close and distance vision and the ability to adjust focus, with vision and hearing normal or corrected to normal.

Work Environment: Requires work indoors and outdoors in varying weather, humidity, and temperature conditions; confined spaces for extended periods; inclined, uneven, or slippery surfaces; exposure to hazardous chemicals, fumes, dust, or smoke; areas of constant high noise and vibration levels. Classified as “safety sensitive” under WFEC Administrative Procedure 805 – Alcohol and Drug-Free Workplace.
