We are currently seeking highly motivated students for Summer Internships for 2025 to work for our Power Technical teams located in multiple locations.  These paid internships will last approximately 10 weeks from June 2, 2025 – August 8, 2025.  As a Summer Intern within our Power Technical team, you will gain real-world, hands-on experience working independently under an assigned supervisor and technical mentor. Historically, intern projects have included:

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Electrical Maintenance Engineer, are to: 

  • Understand, follow and participate in the upkeep of Bayer electrical norms, practices, standards, guidelines, and procedures staying current with industry standards, technology and improved safety methods;
  • Provides equipment support for the maintenance of area process operations; identifies, evaluates, specifies, and selects process equipment to ensure the reliable and safe operation of the assigned assets;

  • Provides support for electrical distribution systems and infrastructure projects within the Muscatine facility including switchgear, transformers, transmissions, arc flash and monitoring;
  • Understanding of electrical infrastructure voltages ranging from 480V to 13.8KV;
  • Manage complex turn-arounds of the assigned assets;
  • Support the coordination and scheduling of assigned plant safety and reliability inspections;
  • Review results and support plan, design, and execution of necessary repairs and/or modifications to resolve discrepancies identified by the Electrical Reliability group;
  • Supports and participates in root cause analysis, asset criticality analysis and failure mode and effect analysis studies to improve reliability of the area equipment;
  • Evaluate and provide electrical engineering and/or project management services with respect to electrical infrastructure ensuring the achievement of project and operational objectives within the full life-cycle of the project;
  • Support effort for identifying, evaluating, and implementing equipment and process modifications to eliminate deficiencies and bottlenecks, and process problems including motors, instrumentation, control and heat trace systems, networking and SAP;
  • Works with OEM suppliers, local vendors and the stores to develop appropriate sparing strategies, while effectively utilizing Bayer resources;
  • Assists compliance with safety and environmental requirements and engineering standards regarding equipment and NFPA70e;
  • Complies with site safety rules and actively works to improve safety through coaching or engineered improvements;
  • Assist with maintaining the following equipment documentation: equipment descriptions, spare parts, equipment lists, histories, manuals, flow sheet documentation, drawings, etc;
  • Provides equipment-specific technical training on the operation and maintenance of process equipment in process operations; supports start-up of equipment and unit operations; improves equipment performance to enable best practices in site operations;
  • Promotes continued development of self and area personnel through peer coaching and providing constructive feedback;
  • Support Site and Area Production System improvements, OnePSS.

Required:

  • BS degree in Electrical or related science;
  • Working knowledge of National Electrical Code (NFPA 70 and 70E).

Primary Purpose:

Implements and maintains electrical power circuits and equipment, control and automation systems, electronic and pneumatic equipment used in pipeline, compressor stations, terminals, pump stations, plant operations and measurement facilities.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Duties include installing, inspecting, maintaining, operating, troubleshooting, repairing and calibrating various mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical and electronic equipment, and completing all appropriate documentation associated with the duties.

Position Requirements

Educational Requirements:

  • Knowledge of process controls and gas processing fundamentals
  • Knowledge and experience preparing drawings of electrical circuits

SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Power Line Supervisor Southern Division, the Light Equipment Operator loads, secures, transports, sets, and unloads transmission materials and equipment as required. The incumbent also operates light equipment including backhoes, light trucks, digger trucks, basket trucks, boom trucks, cranes, equipment for clearing right-of-way (ROW), and escorting vehicles.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Operates and maintains in a safe condition, assigned light equipment including backhoes, light trucks, digger trucks, basket trucks, boom trucks, equipment for clearing ROW, and escorting vehicles. Learns the location of transmission facilities, including stations and lines that make up the transmission system.
Performing all duties in a safe manner at all times, including work near high voltage and/or in adverse weather conditions. Patrols transmission lines on foot to identify necessary repairs as assigned. Performs necessary ROW maintenance such as mowing, spraying, clearing trees, and removing vegetation. Loads, secures, transports, sets, and unloads transmission system equipment and materials. Maintains accurate and current records and reports as related to job responsibility, including driving records. Assists other crews on an as needed basis, when assigned.

Duties

Troubleshoot and Repair Electronics Systems

One of the main roles of an electronic technician is to test and repair various electronic systems or instruments. They run tests or fault diagnostics on equipment to locate and address a problem, order parts if needed, and replace or repair parts. This could include reassembling circuit boards, motor components, or other structures within a system.

Install New Electronic Equipment and Components

Electronic technicians set up and run initial tests on new electronic systems or equipment. Upgrading software and running software tests on existing electronic systems are important tasks for electronic technicians. This responsibility includes maintaining detailed records of validity tests and upgrades performed.

Perform Preventative Maintenance

Electronic technicians perform routine, regularly scheduled preventive maintenance on electronic equipment to avoid issues and potential down time. They keep a log of what maintenance tasks were completed on what dates and when certain tasks should be performed again in the future.

Maintain Reports and Manuals

From upgrades to preventive maintenance schedules, electronic technicians keep logs and reports that outline tests run, parts used, repairs completed, and troubleshooting steps followed. They will regularly update manuals for electronic equipment and maintain parts inventory reports.

Knowledge Requirements

An Associates degree or equivalent in electronics and electrical systems training

Two years industrial experience or equivalent

Mechanical Skills – From reading wiring diagrams and schematics to using soldering     equipment, electronic technicians possess a mechanical aptitude

Computer Proficiency – Familiarity with Windows and Microsoft Office applications, software installation, and programming is essential for this position

Problem-Solving – It often takes several steps to diagnose a problem with an electronic component, so these technicians are versed in how to identify and provide solutions to electronic equipment issues and breakdowns

Communication Skills – From submitting various reports to speaking with engineers, project managers, programmers and other technicians, strong oral and written communication skills are crucial

Eye-hand Coordination – As they often work with small parts, such as circuits and wires, electronic technicians possess proficient eye-hand coordination to repair and install these components

Organizational Skills – From keeping testing equipment in good working condition to maintaining accurate records and manuals, electronic technicians exhibit above-average organizational skills

This person has an important responsibility in keeping Extrusion, Finishing and Films Converting in production.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of the job requirement, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, climb stairs, work in hot environment, and be able to lift 50 pounds. The employee will also be required to work in high noise level areas throughout the plant. Reasonable accommodations will be considered on a case by case basis

Education

Candidates must be actively pursuing a degree in electrical/electrical technology or similar to be considered.

 

Location and Travel

This position will require traveling in/around the Tulsa OK Regional Office (within a 200-mile radius of our local office). Per diem pay available per regional policy.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, this role is often exposed to high/precarious places, risk of electrical shock, and all outside weather conditions. This role is expected to climb and work at heights and in confined spaces. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
