OSU Institute of Technology alumnus Laban Martin has built a resume to be proud of, setting a standard of excellence in his field.
A Tulsa native and Union High School graduate, Martin graduated from OSUIT in 2007 with an Associate in Applied Science in Graphic Design and leveraged the skills he gained to become the director of Creative Services for Haggar at Randa Apparel & Accessories.
RAA is one of the world's leading fashion clothing and lifestyle accessories companies with a portfolio that includes Haggar, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Levi's and Columbia.
"Creative professionals like me are taking the seat at high-level positions and places of power in widely respected companies. Although I don't have a business degree, I consider myself a businessman who happens to be creative," said Martin. "OSUIT gave me both the training and taught me the importance of being business-focused."
Martin manages the Haggar brand's packaging, digital content, photography, and video production in his current role.
"It is my goal to not just think outside the box, but to be the box that others think outside of," states Martin.
You can find Martin’s work at major retailers such as Walmart, Kohl's and Macy’s in O Magazine and Cooking Light and featured in Times Square in New York.
Haggar, a leader in casual and dress pants for men, has also designed and packaged the "Gold Jacket” for the Pro Football Hall of Fame inductees since 1978. A product widely seen as a standard of distinguishment to recognize inducted members' athletic achievements, the unboxing of the "Gold Jacket” is often emotional and recorded by loved ones.
Martin's achievements don’t stop there. His portfolio includes work with other national brands, including Dymatize, Wholly Guacamole, and Teladoc Health.
Martin believes OSUIT trained him at a level that exceeds comparable bachelor's degrees. While considering candidates for hire, he uses his education from OSUIT as the standard and has passed on hiring some who have completed four-year programs that don't match the level of skill taught at OSUIT.
He is currently expanding his portfolio by creating media for Connected TV and entering the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) while living in Texas with his wife, Amanda.
