The OSUIT family is remembering the life of Bruce Mercer after his sudden passing Saturday, May 11. Mercer was a very popular, full-time tutor in the Lasso Center who had taught on campus since 2005. Mercer’s funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, in Covelle Hall under the direction of Integrity Funeral Services.
Mercer received his Associate Degree in Elementary Education from OSUIT in 2004 and his bachelor’s degree in Theology from Crosstown Bible Institute in 2008.
“Bruce was one of a kind, a favorite among students, and the one most requested by those who needed help with math,” said Dr. Bill Path, president. “He was patient and always found the perfect way to explain how to solve those equations.”
“Bruce spent his life working to support and care for his children, elderly mom, and his church,” added Path. “He had an amazing voice and a passion for teaching.”
There will be a banner in memory of Mercer in the Lasso center, located in room 308 of the Noble Center, for students and staff to sign on Tuesday morning, May 14. Faculty is also working with the OSU Foundation to establish a scholarship fund in Mercer’s honor.
