ABET Recognizes OSUIT's Instrumentation Technology Program as Meeting Global Standards

OSU Institute of Technology’s Bachelor of Technology in Engineering Technologies – Instrumentation Technology has been re-accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET, the global accreditor of college and university programs in engineering technology.

“The ABET accreditation status is a high achievement and signifies that OSUIT meets the highest collegial standards in advanced training and ensures our program is at the forefront of technology and innovation.” Said Bob Firth, Dean of the School of Engineering & Construction Technologies at OSUIT. “The accreditation demonstrates to business and industry partners that OSUIT and its faculty provide the highest level of training to students before entering the workforce.”

ABET accreditation proves that a collegiate program has met the essential standards to produce graduates ready to join the field of applied science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology. Graduates from an ABET-accredited program have a solid educational foundation. They are capable of leading the way in innovation and emerging technologies and anticipating the welfare and safety needs of the public.

To students like Andy Bradberry, OSUIT’s accreditation was the deciding factor and an easy choice when considering the cost of similar programs. Bradberry began attending an online program in 2019 and found it did not provide the classroom support he needed. However, he struggled to find an affordable option that gave him the ABET backing employers in the engineering field looked for until he found OSUIT.

“My desire to further my education resulted from a desire to make myself as valuable as possible to my employer and the people I work with. I also want my children to see me set goals and take opportunities to further myself,” said Bradberry. “The ABET accreditation allows me to test for Fundamentals of Engineering and Professional Engineering to become licensed and the only affordable option so I can meet my family’s financial demands and work obligations.”

ABET accreditation assures that programs meet standards to produce graduates ready to enter critical technical fields leading the way in innovation and emerging technologies and anticipating the welfare and safety needs of the public.

Sought worldwide, ABET’s voluntary peer-review process is highly respected because it adds critical value to academic programs in the technical disciplines, where quality, precision and safety are of the utmost importance.

Developed by technical professionals from ABET’s member societies, ABET criteria focus on what students experience and learn. ABET accreditation reviews examine program curricula, faculty, facilities, and institutional support. They are conducted by teams of highly skilled professionals from industry, academia and government with expertise in the ABET disciplines.

ABET is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization with ISO 9001:2015 certification. It currently accredits 4,564 programs at 895 colleges and universities in 40 countries and areas.
