Where are you from?
Kissimmee, Florida is my birthplace, but my father served in the Air Force, so we relocated regularly throughout my childhood. Eventually, my father left the service, and we settled down in the tiny town of Jacktown, Oklahoma. Jacktown is about twenty minutes northwest of Shawnee, and is one of those towns that if you blink you will certainly miss it.
What school and program are you enrolled in?
I am in the Truck Technician program in the School of Diesel & Heavy Equipment.
Why did you want to come to OSUIT?
While I was still in high school, I attended Gordon Cooper Technology Center and studied diesel truck technology there as well. In fact, my instructor there was a former professor here at OSUIT for the Komatsu program. He referred me to OSUIT and informed me of the many possibilities and opportunities this campus holds. After a tour of the campus, I was dead set on furthering my studies here.
What’s been the best thing about being a student here?
One of the biggest aspects of this campus that really stands out to me is the graciousness and the hospitality of the faculty and staff. It is obvious that the instructors genuinely want all of their students to succeed and that means a lot. Also, the ambition and the enthusiasm of the other students has been inspiring. It seems to be the atmosphere around the campus. Those who come to OSUIT come here because they have an appetite for success.
What’s your favorite spot on campus?
My favorite spot on campus is the Truck Technician shop in the Diesel & Heavy Equipment building. I learn with my hands, as do many students who go to any technical institute. In the shop, we have the opportunity to simulate real life scenarios that we would see in a professional shop. To me, this type of learning is unmatched. It helps ensure that we are well-prepared to go into the workforce.
What would you tell someone who is thinking about attending OSUIT?
OSUIT is for those who are looking to chase their dreams through a career they will love. Here at OSUIT, you will actually enjoy your coursework, the instructors invest in you, and you are constantly surrounded by those who encourage and support you.
