Where are you from?

My parents are from Ghana and moved to New Jersey in, I think, 1993. I was born in New Jersey and we moved to Edmond, Oklahoma, when I was 4 years old. I still go back every weekend.

What school and program are you enrolled in?

I’m in the School of Culinary Arts.

Why did you want to come to OSUIT?

I came here on a tour when I was at Francis Tuttle Technology Center in high school and I fell in love with the place. I love the small class sizes. It feels real close, it feels like a family. The instructors really care about how you’re doing.

What’s been the best thing about being a student here?

I really feel like I’ve learned. It’s not just ‘here’s some information,’ I take a test and then it’s gone. I actually learned a lot. And what we learn is what to expect and what will happen in the industry. I feel work ready. I go on internship and then I graduate this summer. I’m looking into going to OSU Stillwater to get my bachelor’s degree, or if my internship goes well, I may go right to work. I’m not sure yet.

What’s your favorite spot on campus?

I live off campus so I don’t see as much as other students. I like the Wilson Commons area. I have some friends who live in the dorms so we go there sometimes. It’s pretty nice.

What would you tell someone who was thinking about attending OSUIT?

They definitely need to be here. It will be worth it in the long run. If you want to be ready for the workforce, this is where you need to be. And compared to other universities, it’s really reasonable.
