Where are you from?
I am from Hanna, Oklahoma. A town about 35 miles south of Okmulgee.
What school and program are you enrolled in?
I am enrolled in the Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering Technology program.
You’re also a staff member here, what’s your job at OSUIT?
I work for the Workforce and Economic Development Division. I am the senior administrative assistant for the manager of the Department of Defense program, Ken Boykin, and Associate Vice President of Workforce and Economic Development Sheryl Hale.
Why did you want to come to OSUIT?
I feel that OSUIT creates an environment that makes people comfortable. I think having instructors that have industry experience is the most conducive way of learning. They know what the industry wants and what they expect, and they prepare you for it. The student population is another reason why I like OSUIT. Most of the students in my program have worked in the field or know something about the field and are always willing to share their knowledge. I think I’ve learned just as much in class as I have outside of class.
What’s been the best thing about being a student here?
The best thing about being a student here is the camaraderie amongst students and instructors. When you spend so much time with everyone— in labs, classrooms, student groups, and working on projects— you become friends and peers.
What’s the best thing about working here?
The best thing about working here is being in a non-traditional environment. Some days it feels like work, other days it feels like home. On all of those days, I don’t know where I would be without OSUIT.
What’s your favorite spot on campus?
My favorite spot is Tower Road, the road between the softball field and the School of Diesel & Heavy Equipment building. I’ve read many books leaning against the Tech Tower.
What would you tell someone who was thinking about attending OSUIT?
OSUIT is a wise decision for the time and money. The programs are unique and will make you employable. Plus, you will meet some great people that you will be your peers for the rest of your life.
