On Saturday Nov. 5, area alumni from all Oklahoma State University campuses including OSU Institute of Technology are invited to an OSU football watch party at Morty’s, 104 S. Morton Ave., in downtown Okmulgee.
The watch party is being organized by OSUIT Alumni Relations.
“We’re trying to get an alumni chapter up and going in Okmulgee,” said Bruce Force, director of OSUIT alumni relations. “Through the watch party we’re hoping to identify some of the local alumni, even OSU Stillwater alumni, who aren’t affiliated with a chapter.”
According to Force, there are just over 2,000 OSUIT alumni living in Okmulgee, Henryetta, Morris and Beggs.
“In the vicinity we have a lot of local alumni. We want to invite them out, provide an opportunity for some camaraderie,” he said. “We want to welcome them and invite them to be part of our alumni association.”
Joining the alumni association benefits its members through networking opportunities like watch parties. It also keeps alumni up-to-date on what’s going on at their alma mater and offers opportunities for alumni to give back in a variety of ways.
Force said owners of Morty’s, one of Okmulgee’s newest restaurants, were more than happy to host the watch party.
“We can do some things on campus, but Morty’s has that sports bar theme. People may or may not feel comfortable coming on campus. And at Morty’s people can grab some food, have a soda or a beer,” he said.
And hopefully they become more regular occurrences.
“Maybe do more watch parties for basketball games or maybe the Bedlam game,” Force said. “It’s a great way for people to get together to watch their OSU Cowboys compete without having to go to Stillwater.”
Those interested in being part of an OSUIT Alumni Chapter but are unable to attend Saturday’s watch party can contact Bruce Force at 918-293-5456 or at bruce.force@okstate.edu for more information.
