Nominations for the 2019 Outstanding Faculty and Staff Awards are underway for the month of March, providing colleagues the opportunity to nominate a peer for simply being “outstanding.” 

Sponsored by the OSU Institute of Technology Faculty and Staff Association, the awards are given to acknowledge and praise OSUIT employees who not only go above and beyond in professional service but also inspire those around them to have pride in being an OSUIT employee. 

“Every day we come to work and interact with fellow employees. If you stop and actually think about it, there is someone here on campus who strikes you as special and distinct,” said Eric Covey, Faculty Staff Council Chair. 

In order to be considered for the 2019 Outstanding Faculty and Staff Awards, the nominee must be employed by OSUIT full-time for at least two years prior to the April 1 deadline for submitting nominations, may not be on performance probation and may not be a member of the president’s cabinet. 

This year FSC will hand out three awards: Outstanding Faculty Award, Outstanding Professional Staff Award and Outstanding Classified Staff Award. 

Covey said the process for nominations is simple. The online form is available on the OSUIT website and allows for a quick and seamless nomination process. 

“We have so few opportunities to say thank you and acknowledge those who are employed here and making a positive impact on the university’s success. Whether that be at the front of the classroom giving a lecture or in an office, filing papers and answering phone calls. 

Claudette Butcher, executive assistant to the president, is the current 2018 Outstanding Staff Award recipient. She believes this year’s recipient should be someone who makes a difference in the lives of all whom they engage with, both on and off the job. 

“This person has a passion to help others succeed,” said Butcher. “Someone who is kind and embraces diversity and equality, keeps self from office politics, understanding that we all have areas in our lives that need perfecting. And an honest person, with themselves and others, even when it hurts to hear it.”

A sub-committee will review nominations and make a decision based on a series of criteria. Winners will be announced at this year’s All-Employee Banquet on June 4.
