OSU Institute of Technology buzzed with excitement as students and industry partners exchanged handshakes and resumes for promising job and internship opportunities at the Spring Career Fair held in Covelle Hall on March 5.
This year's turnout was remarkable, with nearly 100 industry professionals and over 200 students. Armed with practical skills honed through immersive, hands-on training in their respective specialized programs, students explored potential career paths and deepened their understanding of industry landscapes.
Rendi McDowell, director of OSUIT’s Assessment and Career Services, emphasized the invaluable experience these events offer students a platform to refine their soft skills, from crafting effective introductions to engaging in meaningful dialogue with prospective employers.
"Attending our career fair is not just about gathering information; it's about forging connections and seizing opportunities. It's a platform where our students can network, ask questions, and gain insights from industry professionals. Moreover, it's a unique chance to engage with our alumni, who serve as living proof of the value of an OSUIT education and the success that awaits those who choose to invest in their future here," said McDowell.
The roster of participating organizations was impressive, featuring prominent entities such as ONEOK, American Electric Power, Kimberly-Clark, Weyerhauser, Saint Francis Health Systems, and Navistar, among others. Representatives from these esteemed companies eagerly received resumes and insightful conversations about the opportunities within their respective industries.
Every interaction served as a catalyst for the OSU Polytech initiative to align STEM-related academic programs with industry demands and enhance Oklahoma’s workforce development across the state.
