OSU Institute of Technology has added a new fitness option for those looking to get more active in the new year with a new fitness classed called Yoga Sculpt.
Free to OSUIT students and employees, classes are instructed by Connie Wood, a certified E-RYT 200 yoga instructor, every Monday* from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Covelle Hall South Gym.
Yoga Sculpt is a fitness class that incorporates hand weights, medicine balls, and cardio exercises. Sam Nguyen, sports and wellness coordinator, said this class will be available for the first eight weeks of the semester, but the workout will differ each week.
Nguyen said that this is something that has been highly requested by students and employees.
“Once we found the right instructor, I knew I wanted to implement it as soon as possible,” said Nguyen. “Fitness classes are fun. By attending, you can push yourself to a whole new level and surround yourself with like-minded individuals."
He said that he hopes this class encourages students and employees to become more active.
“This type of class can help increase someone’s energy, teach them how to properly workout and help with their overall health and wellness,” said Nguyen.
Wood, from Okemah, has four years and over 3,000 hours of leading classes. She obtained her certification from Everyone Yoga School in Tulsa and also holds certifications in Trauma Informed Yoga Therapy and Yin Yoga. She enjoys teaching many types of yoga, from restorative/deep stretch, chair yoga for seniors and mobility challenged and yoga sculpt.
“I love teaching because it is such a healing modality that strengthens your body, mind and spirit,” said Wood. “I believe yoga is for everyone whether you are currently inactive and inflexible, to experienced athletes. If you do not have any yoga experience, don’t worry. I am here to lead you each step of the way!”
No sign-up is required to attend the class; however, all attendees must present their OSUIT ID to check in at the front desk.
