Two OSU Institute of Technology students were recently selected to the All Oklahoma/All USA Academic Team and were recognized at a ceremony at the State Capitol in Oklahoma City.
Martin McCurdy is working on his Bachelor of Technology in Information Assurance, and Park Davis will graduate with an Associate in Applied Science in Construction Management.
Those selected for the All Oklahoma/All USA Academic Team were recognized March 2 in the rotunda of the Oklahoma State Capitol.
“The awards ceremony was empowering. This was my first time in the Capitol building and being surrounded by all the marble and artwork exceeded my expectations,” said McCurdy, who was also presented with a Citation of Recognition by State Sen. Roger Thompson. “It was inspiring to engage with other All Oklahoma/All USA Academic Team members and sharing our experiences in receiving this award.”
McCurdy and Davis were selected because of their grade point averages of at least 3.5 and provided examples on how they demonstrated their leadership skills in the classroom, on campus and in the community.
Davis worked in the construction industry for years, and then at age 40, he decided to enroll in OSUIT’s Construction Management program.
“I got to a point where I had to stop doing the manual part of the business and go into the administration side of things,” he said, and being selected to the All Oklahoma/All USA Academic can only help. “For my future career, it won’t hurt. It can’t look bad on a resume.”
McCurdy said he was ecstatic when he learned he had been selected and immediately told his wife.
“I read the email to her and she commenced to nonstop hugging me,” he said. “It provides assurance in knowing that setting educational goals and objectives can be attained through confidence and commitment.”
