Fall Career Fair Returns in Virtual Format

OSU Institute of Technology's Career Fair will return for the fall trimester virtually to allow students and employers to connect for career opportunities and internships. The career fair will be held online Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the virtual platform known as Handshake.

This fall's Career Fair provides opportunities for industry partners to meet with OSUIT's highly skilled and trained students in Truck Technician, Engineering & Construction Technologies and Creative & Information Technologies and learn how they may be a perfect fit for their company.

"The purpose of the career fair is to provide a dedicated date and time conveniently for our industry partners to introduce themselves, meet with students and discuss job and internship opportunities," said Academic Affairs Administrative Assistant Angela Byars. "By offering this virtually, we can accomplish that by keeping everyone safe and avoiding the unnecessary risk associated with COVID-19."

This year's virtual platform requires employers and students to register in the Handshake platform. Employers will create group and one-on-one sessions that students will be able to sign up for. The interaction is via video conferencing, similar to other major video platforms.

"I encourage students to take time to research the employers who are participating and come prepared with questions," said Byars. "This allows students and employers to gain the most out of this virtual platform."

The event allows students to make connections, meet representatives from potential employers and internship sponsors in their field of study, and learn about future career opportunities.

"We hope students understand that OSUIT is doing all we can to offer them the opportunity to locate a job or internship," said Byars. "The flip side of that is that we are also looking to do what we can to allow employers to communicate with them."

An additional benefit of the virtual platform is that Handshake provides a library of supporting material online for both students and employers to make their participation a success.
