Where are you from?
I am a native Oklahoman born in Enid and raised on a small farm and ranch outside the town of Hennessey where I graduated from high school before continuing my education at SWOSU and then graduate school at OSU Stillwater.
What do you do here at OSUIT?
I am proud to serve the campus community of OSUIT as their dean of students.
Tell me a little about your experience with the university so far?
I have served the OSUIT campus community in Student Services through a variety of positions since I came to OSUIT from OSU Stillwater in 1999.
What’s been the best thing about working here?
The absolute best parts of OSUIT are the students and employees. We have such a wonderful student body that comes from an amazing and diverse background. To be a part of the fantastic team of OSUIT faculty and staff that share in our students’ struggles and successes as they reach their goals and watch them grow as our future leaders of business and communities, I truly count as a gift.
What do you wish more people knew about OSUIT and the role you play here?
OSUIT is student-centered more than any other place I know. The university’s commitment to our students is a part of our culture. The first day new students arrive, they are welcomed by OSUIT employees who volunteer their time to help move the students into their dorm room. Our commitment continues in the classroom with caring and supportive faculty that are invested in the student’s success even assisting in securing internships that often evolve into jobs for the student upon graduation. When class lets out, the commitment keeps going. Student Life events, clubs and organizations, Student Union services and tutoring services, along with peer mentors in and outside the residence halls— all are working together for the benefit of our students.
What’s your favorite spot on campus?
The Student Union. Superb food at the award-winning Cowboy Café, incredible original artwork throughout the building by alumni and current students, and you always run into someone you know.
What would you tell someone who was thinking about attending or working at OSUIT?
Come to one of our Student Advisement Days. We’ll show you why OSU Institute of Technology is the leader in applied technology education and is known for our world-class teaching facilities. And, did I mention a nearly 90 percent career placement rate?
