OSUIT’s Largest Career Fair Doubles the Opportunity for Students and Industry

OSU Institute of Technology was filled with energy as students and industry partners exchanged resumes for job and internship opportunities at the recent Career Fair hosted in the Donald W. Reynolds building.

Nearly 70 employers and 300 students participated in the event, almost doubling the attendance of previous Career Fairs! Each student came equipped with the skills they developed through hands-on training in their specialized programs to explore their potential careers and expand their knowledge of industry opportunities.

“Events like these give the students a chance to get in front of more than one industry partner and practice their soft skills such as introducing themselves, practicing their handshake, marketing themselves, and asking questions about the company. The more times they do this, the easier it gets for them to talk to others about why they should be hired,” said Rendi McDowell, director of OSUIT’s Assessment and Career Services.

Representatives from the City of Tulsa, Oklahoma Chiller, OneNet, Phillips 66, Oklahoma Natural Gas, Flintco, Crimson Steel Supply, and many more were accepting resumes and answering questions about industry opportunities.

Bryce Gandy, 2019 OSUIT alumni and current System Engineer at OneNet, shared his valuable insight, “We are seeking candidates who are not just willing to continue learning but also possess the attitude essential for excelling in their careers. Life throws challenges our way that we might not always feel equipped to handle, but with the right mind and skill set, any task can be accomplished. What sets OSUIT students and graduates apart is the foundation of industry knowledge they gain before graduation.”

But the job fair goes beyond handshakes and resumes. Every conversation presented an opportunity to grow Oklahoma’s next generation of workforce leaders.
