OSU Institute of Technology's Phi Theta Kappa chapter induction ceremony celebrated nearly 100 new members into the honor society on February 19 in Covelle Hall, honoring the academic successes of the largest group of new members for OSUIT.
Susie Mauldin served as the advisor of OSUIT's Phi Theta Kappa and expressed her gratitude for the support and the success of the inductees, "The ceremony is held to publicly honor students' academic achievements and encourage them to network with other students who are dedicated to excelling in their programs."
The induction ceremony included a presentation from chapter president Travis Buoy, which highlighted the four hallmarks in which PTK was founded: leadership, fellowship, scholarship and service.
Phi Theta Kappa has become one of the largest and most prestigious honor societies, serving two-year colleges around the world for over 100 years.
"Being an active member offers a plethora of opportunities for students to grow as leaders, become involved in campus events, build relationships with students across campus, as well as participate in community service projects. Each year, we can attend two regional conferences and one international conference," said Mauldin.
Invitations for membership are extended to students who qualify directly through OSUIT. To qualify, you must have completed 12 hours of college courses and have a GPA of 3.5 or higher. PTK provides opportunities for its members to grow as scholars and leaders, offering scholarships and online courses focused on members' employability.
"Many of our students join PTK because of the scholarship opportunities offered through ptk.org. I am truly blessed to be able to help students see their potential as leaders of tomorrow. Each semester, I have the privilege of meeting new students and building relationships that will last a lifetime," shared Mauldin.
