Students to Connect with Employers at Virtual Career Fair

OSU Institute of Technology's Virtual Career Fair will return for the summer trimester to allow students and employers to connect for career opportunities and internships. The career fair will be held online Tuesday, July 13, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the virtual platform known as Handshake.

This event provides opportunities for industry partners to meet with OSUIT's highly skilled and trained students in Truck Technician, Engineering & Construction Technologies and Creative & Information Technologies and discover opportunities for new career placement.

Fourteen employers are participating in the summer career fair, including American Electric Power (AEP), the Cherokee Nation, Crossland Construction, Office of Management and Enterprise Services (OMES), Plains All American, United Rental, Inc. and Western Farmers Electric Cooperative.

"Employers are dedicating time specifically to meet with OSUIT students," said Angela Byars, event organizer and senior administrative assistant for Academic Affairs. "Our industry partners have a long-standing relationship with OSUIT and have confidence in the skill set our students graduate with. They are here looking to hire!"

Designed for students at varying levels of their program, the career fair provides opportunities for students looking for full-time employment after graduation, as well as placement opportunities for their required internships. Students meet directly with representatives from potential employers and internship sponsors in their field of study.

"OSUIT provides you with the skills, and the career fair provides the opportunity," said Byars. "I encourage students to register for the event to meet with employers and find the job they've been working toward."

Handshake requires employers and students to register in the virtual platform. Employers will create group and one-on-one sessions that students will be able to sign up for. The interaction is via video conferencing, similar to other major video platforms.

The event allows students to make connections, meet representatives from potential employers and internship sponsors in their field of study, and learn about future career opportunities.

Handshake also provides a library of supporting material online for both students and employers to make their participation a success. Students can get ready for the career fair by watching the video "Handshake How-To: First Five Days on Handshake" on YouTube.

The in-person career fairs are scheduled to return to the OSUIT campus in the fall trimester with a potential virtual option.
