Prospective Residents

Full-Time Traditional Freshman or Transfer Student

Residing on campus is considered an important part of a student’s educational experience. Single student housing and family apartments are safe, convenient, and affordable.  All students taking 12 or more hours are required to live in the dorms unless one of the following apply to you:

• Where you graduated high school is less than 50 drivable miles from the OSU Institute of Technology campus, or
• You are 21 or older at the time of application to the University, or
• You are married, or
• You have a child, or
• You have already lived on the OSU Institute of Technology campus two semesters, or
• You are enrolled in 12 or more hours of on-line classes.

If you are receiving the out-of-state tuition waiver you are required to live on campus while receiving the waiver.  Exceptions to live off campus your first year must be requested in writing, submitted to the housing office, and approved by the exceptions committee.  Students are encouraged to apply early for housing, as space can be limited. To reserve a room in housing students must make a deposit of $150 ($500 for family apartments). Each housing contract is for two (2) semesters.  If campus housing is not available, permission may be granted to live off campus for a specified time with the understanding that the student will return to live on campus when campus housing becomes available. Please also fill out the Student Profile section so you may assist the staff in assigning your roommate. If you would like to have a specific person as your roommate, indicate the person’s name in the appropriate area of the Student Profile section. Make certain that you use the person’s full name and include his/her social security number, and mail/turn in both contracts together. We will make every effort to accommodate all specific requests in regards to roommates and types of room. If you are going to be a student who is 25 yrs or older you must apply for non-traditional housing. A prospective student who is married or have children are encouraged to consider applying for family housing. Students living in traditional housing must select a meal plan while living on campus. Meal plan is used at campus food services which include the Student Union cafeteria and the University Market convenience store located in Wilson Commons. GOPO (Downtown) Housing

If you are considering living on campus and are 21 or older, you may apply for GOPO housing. All applicants for GOPO housing will have a background check performed on them to evaluate eligibility for housing. Things to consider before applying for GOPO housing is if you are married or have children then you should consider applying for family housing as this complex does not house families. GOPO residents may not have children under the age of 18 visit even if you are the parent or legal guardian. Those who are at least 21 years old and do not wish to live campus may choose not to. Students living in GOPO housing are not required to but may select a meal plan while living on campus. The meal plans may be used at campus food services which include the Student Union cafeteria and the University Market convenience store located in Wilson Commons. Non-Traditional Students

If you are considering living on campus and are 25 or older, you may apply for non-traditional housing. All applicants for non-traditional housing will have a background check performed on them to evaluate eligibility for housing. Things to consider before applying for non-traditional housing is if you are married or have children then you should consider applying for family housing. Non-traditional students may not have children under the age of 18 visit even if you are the parent or legal guardian. Also, spouses may only visit during normal visitation hours and are not allowed to stay over night with a student classified in housing as a non-traditional. Family Housing Students

To qualify for family housing the student must meet one or more of the following qualifications:

• must be married with a valid copy of your marriage license
• have children under the age of 13 (may not consist of more than two children)

We would like prospective Family Housing residents to know we do not allow any children under the age of 18 to visit their residence on campus. You may find additional information and cost here for Alexander Hall.

Students living in Family Housing are not required to have a meal plan while living on campus. If a meal plan is desired only individuals registered as a student may receive a meal plan and is limited to Declining Balance plan. Find out more information about the food service meal plans.
