Admission Requirement Criteria
All students must meet the criteria for both the high school curricular requirements and the high school performance requirements as defined by OSRHE. The following high school curricular requirements have been established for students seeking admission to Oklahoma colleges and universities.
Required High School Course Work
The 15 units of high school course work required for college admission to public colleges and universities in the State System. The following high school curricular requirements have been established for students seeking admission to Oklahoma colleges and universities. These include:
- 4 units of English (Grammar, Composition, Literature)
- 3 units of Mathematics (Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Math Analysis, Calculus, Advanced Placement Statistics)
- 3 units of Laboratory Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or any lab science certified by the school district; General Science with or without a lab may not be used to meet this requirement.)
- 3 units of History and Citizenship Skills (including 1 unit of American History and 2 additional units for subjects of History, Economics, Geography, Government, Non-Western Culture)
- 2 additional units of courses that fit into one of the categories above or foreign language or computer science
The admission policies of OSU Institute of Technology are those approved by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education on Admission to and Transfer among Oklahoma Colleges and Universities of the State System. Students will be admitted in one of the following admission categories.
Note: For admissions purposes, an official transcript is one requested within the past year, has the graduation date labeled and is in a sealed envelope from the school or sent via email from the high school counselor’s office. Official transcripts may only be received and opened by Office of Admissions staff.
Select Admissions Criteria
Admission of First-Time College Students
- Students Seeking Admission to AS, or Baccalaureate Degree Programs
Any individual who:
- is a graduate of a high school accredited by the appropriate regional association or by an appropriate accrediting agency of the home state or has achieved a high school equivalency certificate based on the GED;
- has met the curricular requirements as set forth by the OSRHE policy;
- OSUIT is now ACT/SAT optional, meaning we request ACT/SAT scores; however, they are not required.
- Students Seeking Admission to AAS Degree Programs
Any individual who:
- is a graduate of high school accredited by the appropriate regional association or by an appropriate accrediting agency of the home state
- or has achieved a high school equivalency certificate based on the GED
OSUIT is now ACT/SAT optional, meaning we request ACT/SAT scores; however, they are not required.
- First-Time College Students Requirements
Graduates from an accredited high school are eligible for admission provided they:
- Submit an Application for Admission
- Submit an official High School transcript, and;
- Participate in ACCUplacer (Next Generation) assessment in English, Math, and Reading,
if needed. This requirement can be waived if you have:

- A 2.5 overall High School GPA or
- ACT Score of 19 in English, Reading, and/or Math

- OSUIT is now ACT/SAT optional, meaning we request ACT/SAT scores; however, they are not required.
Non-High School Graduates are eligible for admission provided they are 18 years of age or older and their high school class has graduated and they:
- Submit an Application for Admission
- Submit an official transcripts of previous academic history including GED certificate
if taken, and;
- GED FAQs
- GED Subject scores of 175 or higher qualify for awarding of college credit

Admission of Transfer Students
A Transfer Student is any undergraduate student with greater than six attempted credit hours, excluding remedial/developmental (zero-level courses) or pre college work and excluding credit hours accumulated by concurrently enrolled high school students.
- Admission by Transfer within the State System
Undergraduate students entering OSUIT by transfer from another State System institution must meet both the high school curricular requirements and academic performance standards of OSUIT and must have a GPA high enough to meet the institution’s retention standards based on at least 24 attempted semester credit hours of regularly graded (A, B, C, D, F) college work.
- Admission by Transfer from Non-State System Institutions
Undergraduate students wishing to transfer from non-State System institutions to OSUIT may do so by meeting the entrance requirements of OSUIT; and also meet the following:
- Transcripts of record from colleges and universities accredited by the HLC or other regional associations will be given full value.
- Each nonresident applicant must be in good standing in the institution from which the applicant plans to transfer.
- Transcripts of record from institutions not accredited by a regional association may be accepted in transfer when appropriate to the student’s degree program and when the receiving institution has had an opportunity to validate the courses or programs.
- Transfer Student Requirements
Individuals who have enrolled in one or more colleges prior to enrollments at OSUIT must provide the following documentation depending upon the number of hours completed at previous colleges.
Students with fewer than 24 credit hours
- Submit an Application for Admission
- OSUIT is now ACT/SAT optional, meaning we request ACT/SAT scores; however, they are
not required.
- Submit an official High School transcript, and;
- Submit an official college transcript from each college attended;
- Participate in ACCUplacer (Next Generation) assessment in English, Math, and Reading,
if needed. This requirement can be waived if you have
- A 2.5 overall High School GPA. OR
- ACT Score of 19 in English, Reading, and/or Math. OR
- College Credit in an English, Reading, and/or Math class.
- Participate in ACCUplacer (Next Generation) assessment in English, Math, and Reading,
if needed. This requirement can be waived if you have
Students with 24 or more credit hours
- Submit an Application
- Submit an official college transcript from each college attended;
- Participate in ACCUplacer (Next Generation) assessment in English, Math, and Reading,
if needed. This requirement can be waived if you have
- ACT Score of 19 in English, Reading, and/or Math. OR
- College Credit in an English, Reading, and/or Math class.

Special Admissions
Under certain circumstances the institution is allowed to admit students under a special admission category. The OSRHE allow each institution to determine if the student meets one of the following criteria for special admission to the university:
- Special Non-Degree Seeking Student
Students who wish to enroll in courses without intending to pursue a degree may be permitted to enroll in no more than nine credit hours without submitting academic credentials or meeting the academic curricular or performance requirements of the institution of desired entry. Retention standards will be enforced. Once a student has completed the designated number of hours, the student is required to meet the formal admission or transfer criteria for the institution of desired entry in order to enroll in additional course work.
- Home Study or Non-Recognized Accredited or Unaccredited High Schools
An individual who is a graduate of a private, parochial, or other nonpublic high school which is not accredited by a recognized accrediting agency is eligible for admission as follows:
- OSUIT is now ACT/SAT optional, meaning we request ACT/SAT scores; however, they are not required.
- The student’s high school class of his or her peers must have graduated.
- The student must satisfy the high school curricular requirements for the institution
to which the student is applying, as certified by the school or for home study, the
parent.
- Participate in ACCUplacer (Next Generation) assessment in English, Math, and Reading,
if needed. This requirement can be waived if you have

- College Credit in an English, Reading, and/or Math class.

Admission of International Students
- International Requirements
Students who require a visa to study in the United States are eligible for admission if they:
- have graduated from high school or secondary school
- can show English proficiency in any of these ways
- TOEFL Internet-based score of at least 61
- TOEFL computer-based score of at least 173
- TOEFL paper-based score of at least 500
- IELTS score of at least 5.0
- native English speaker
- have submitted an international application for admission
- can show financial support for the estimated cost of attendance
- International Students
The following information applies to U.S. citizens and resident aliens (have Green Card). International students who need a visa should go to International Admissions.

These are tools and guides to help you in the transfer process. The application of your transfer credit toward completion of an Associate in Science, Associate in Applied Science, or Bachelor of Technology degree will be determined by your academic school upon your enrollment. Our academic departments determine which credits will be used to meet degree requirements.

Admissions Frequently Asked Questions
- How do I apply?
Complete the admissions application. You can do this by completing the online application or by paper application submitted to the Admission Office.
- Is there an application fee?
No, there is not a fee to apply to OSUIT.
- What are the admissions requirements?

- I have applied for admissions, now what documents do I need to turn in?
- Submit an official 8-semester high school transcript or GED scores. For students that have not received a high school diploma or their GED please contact the Admissions Office for more information.
- Submit official transcripts from all colleges attended regardless of credits earned.
- Submit ACT or SAT scores. There is no minimum score required for admission. These scores are used for placement and scholarships. We accept either National ACT scores or OSU System residual ACT test scores. In addition, you may submit a National SAT score instead of the ACT scores. Residual test dates and requirements are listed online. This step is optional, we request scores; however, they are not required.
- Submit a copy of your immunization records. Oklahoma state law requires that all new students who attend Oklahoma colleges and universities for the first time provide proof of immunization for certain diseases. Medical, religious and personal exemptions are allowed by law and such requests must be in writing using the Certificate of Exemption form available at the Campus Health Services Office located in the Student Union or online.
- Do I have to take the ACCUPLACER® placement test?
All students are required to participate in ACCUPLACER® assessment. This is a self-paced computerized assessment of your reading, math, and English skills. The ACCUPLACER® assessment can be taken on-campus weekdays between 7:30 am and 1:30 pm Off-campus testing may be arranged by contacting the Assessment Center. Some students may be exempt from taking a portion or the entire test. Transfer students who have successfully completed coursework in that specific area or those students with ACT sub score of 19 or higher in that subject area may be exempt from that section of the compass test. ACCUPLACER® testing study guides are available online.
- Do I have to live on campus?
All students that live more than 50 miles from the campus and are under 21 years of age are required to live on campus for two semesters. Complete a residential life room and board contract and submit it with your housing deposit to the Residential Life Office prior to enrollment. Residential Life information and the housing contract are available online. All out-of-state tuition waivers require students to live on campus while receiving the waiver.
- How do I register or enroll for classes?
Once all your admissions documents have been received in the Admissions Office your admissions process is complete. First-time students will be issued a Course Registration Form to take to their academic department for enrollment. Once you have completed the admissions process you are now ready to talk with your academic department about enrollment. Enrollment can be done with your advisor or online through our My Okstate portal. You will need to have your O-key account activated to enroll online. If you have not completed O-key activation, please visit the O-key website. Please contact your department advisor for more information.
- How do I drop/add classes? Withdraw from class?

- Is financial aid available?
OSUIT participates in various financial aid programs. All students are encouraged to apply online for financial assistance with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Find out more details in our Student Financial Services section.
- Can I apply for scholarships?By completing the Admissions Application to OSUIT you have been considered for an institutional fee waiver. Fee waivers are based on established criteria and OSU Foundation Scholarships as well as outside scholarship opportunities. Find out more details in our Scholarship Services section.
- What is the purpose of the student identification card?The Student Identification (ID) Card, which is issued during enrollment, is carried for identification and is REQUIRED when using Meal Plans or campus services offered by the college. The first ID card is issued at no charge. Replacement ID cards are $15 each.
- Do I need a parking permit for my car? If so, where do I get one?Each student and employee vehicle that is parked on campus is required to display a valid parking decal. These decals may be obtained through Campus Police Parking Permit webpage. Decals are valid from September to August. The first decal is issued at no charge. Replacement decals are $15.
- Are students permitted to use campus services?All students are encouraged to use any of the specialized services offered on campus. This includes Covelle Hall, Campus Infirmary, and various services offered on campus. See Student Life for more information.
