Guidance for COVID-19 Exposure or Positive Test

- Symptoms resolving: Overall symptom improvement AND 24-hours fever free without using fever-reducing medication.
OSUIT employee procedure for reporting symptoms of COVID-19:
- Call your supervisor. Do not come to campus to notify your supervisor you are experiencing symptoms of Coronavirus (COVID-19). The supervisor will notify the appropriate Dean or Vice President who will notify the OSUIT HR Department.
- Seek medical advice. Call ahead before going to your primary care physician or emergency room. If you do not have a primary care physician, please contact your local Health Department.
- Do not come to come to campus if you are experiencing symptoms.
- Tell your health care provider about your symptoms, recent travel, and people you may have been in close contact with that could have been exposed.
- Limit interactions with others for 10 days and practice social distancing.
Exposure to someone who tested positive for COVID-19

Fully-vaccinated individuals do NOT need to quarantine after contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, unless they are experiencing symptoms.
- OSUIT recommends that individuals who are vaccinated get tested for COVID-19 7 days after exposure, even if they are not experiencing symptoms.
- OSUIT also recommends that vaccinated individuals who are exposed to COVID-19 wear a mask for 10 days from the date of exposure.
Individuals who are NOT vaccinated should isolate for 7 days after their last exposure with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.
- These individuals should also wear a mask for 10 days from the date of exposure and get tested for COVID-19 on the 7th day from exposure.
Individuals who test positive for COVID-19

Experiencing symptoms
Common Symptoms
- Fever of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit/38 degrees Celsius or greater
- Cough (new onset or worsening of chronic cough)
- Shortness of Breath
Additional Symptoms may include the following:
- Chills
- Muscle aches
- Runny nose
- Sore throat
- Nausea or vomiting
- Headache
- Abdominal pain
- Diarrhea
Individuals who test positive for COVID-19 and are experiencing symptoms will need to quarantine and can be around others after:
- 10 days since symptoms first appeared and
- 24 hours with no fever without the use of fever-reducing medications and
- Other symptoms of COVID-19 are improving*
*Loss of taste and smell may persist for weeks or months after recovery and need not delay the end of isolation
Emergency warning signs requiring immediate medical attention include the following:
- Trouble breathing
- Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
- New confusion or not able to be woken
- Bluish lips or face
Call 911 if you have a medical emergency. If you have a medical emergency and need to call 911, notify the operator that you have or think you might have, COVID-19. If possible, put on a facemask before medical help arrives.

Not experiencing symptoms
Individuals who test positive for COVID-19 and are NOT experiencing symptoms will need to quarantine and can be around others after:
- 7 days have passed since a positive viral test for COVID-19.
If you develop symptoms after testing positive, follow the guidance above for “Experiencing Symptoms.”
