Crime Prevention at OSUIT
It is an unfortunate fact that criminal incidents of all types occur on college campuses. Many campuses around the country investigate and make public the nature of crimes, the quantity, and how they are investigated. Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology subscribes to that approach and further believes that the public should know how active the university police are in crime prevention and detection.
Crimes In Progress
To report a crime in progress on the OSUIT campus, any person can dial 918-293-5000, 24 hours a day. This reporting method will activate the response of police, fire, ambulance, or other appropriate first responders. If a person dials 911 from the OSUIT campus, the call will go to the Okmulgee County 911 Center. The call will then be routed to the OSUIT campus police dispatch office.
Reporting Crimes
Crime victims, regardless of how seemingly insignificant the crime, are encouraged to promptly report the crime to the OSUIT Police Department or the appropriate jurisdictional police agency. To report a crime, a victim, survivor, or witness needs only to call the OSUIT campus police at 918-293-5000, and an OSUIT police officer will meet them to gather the information. You can also fill out an Incident Report Form. An official report is made.
Behavioral Consultation Team
Each day, the incidents from the previous day are summarized and made available to the OSUIT Vice President of Fiscal Services. Crimes are counted and reported to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, who in turn provides the information to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Each year, the FBI publishes a book of crime statistics called “Crime in the United States,” which includes accurate accounting of the criminal incidents which occurred on the OSUIT campus.
The Behavioral Consultation Team (BCT) is unable to mitigate a situation until we are aware of it. The vigilance of all persons is critical to keeping the campus safe. The university expects all members of our campus to act quickly and responsibly if they hear or see something that is out of the ordinary. It’s important to report any concerns, even if they seem minor. Don’t assume someone else will call! Call 918-293-5287 or fill out an online form.
The BCT is a specially trained group of professional staff members from several university departments with mental health, student development, law enforcement, academic, administrative, and legal expertise. The Team investigates and evaluates questionable behavior and threats, then suggests or implements strategies for monitoring individuals who may pose a threat of harm. The Team’s goal is to work with all parties involved to advocate for a safe campus environment.
Student Responsibilities
Each student has the responsibility as a citizen of our campus community to stand up for his/her own rights. Students must work with OSUIT as well as peers to ensure the protection of those rights.
Students have the responsibility to:
